GOOD BEER IS OUR TESTIMONY ~

Among their many unique talents, Americans are adept at maintaining the fiction of their individuality by means of rationalizing that a boastful allegiance to one or another mass-produced idea or commodity denotes independent thinking. Such self-delusion is infinitely less taxing than the arduous task of introspection that prefaces genuinely free thought.

In no other aspect of life is this more alarmingly true than when an American sets out to select a beer.

Nine out of ten Americans, most of whom are eager to pound their fists on the bar top in an impassioned defense of their uniqueness and individuality, nevertheless persist in lubricating their argumentative frenzy by purchasing the major national brands of beer to the exclusion of all others. Numbingly and with blind repetition, they drink the same beer each and everyday. It is a strange ritual, but it isn’t entirely the fault of the consumer. What passes in America for “choice” is shaped not by rational thought or informed free-will, but by pervasive forces of marketing and advertising. These destructive disciplines enforce and maintain the status quo for products and are little more than the tasteless residue of a cynical industrial process performed with antiseptic exactitude by bloated multi-national corporate entities.

Of course, as we know it doesn’t have to be this way. We endorse openly, loudly and proudly the dissent from the norms of American beer “culture.” We will not go away quietly. Confronted with a seemingly insurmountable ocean of swill, we have ignored the tyranny of the majority and have chosen the path less traveled - the true, revolutionary path that leads to beer that does more than provide the lowest common denominator of satisfaction for the American desire to drink small, easily digestible doses of alcohol diluted in generic golden liquid, which is the result of brewing as the mass production of a commodity, utterly lacking in artistic merit, and something that is peddled to the masses in a way that would make the famous totalitarian propagandists blush with envy.

We’ll have none of the above. We demand flavor and integrity from our beer and we refuse to settle for less. Because beer is important to the us and the beer is an important part of the story of humanity in a number of ways. The saga of beer is a long and fascinating one with chapters that deal with all aspects of the human experience. Beer is about science and art, farms and cities, social history, local culture and geography. It’s about the places you’ve been and the places you’d like to go. It’s about different textures and flavors to match your mood, the time of day, the season, and the task at hand.

Beer is all about pleasure. It is our unshakeable belief that the pleasure of beer is enhanced by bolstering one’s knowledge of its diversity and applying this knowledge to everyday life. We here at Strange Brew recognize that life is short and there are so many things to do and learn, but so very little time. But there is always time for a good beer. So why not make that beer the best one possible?

If we are to define ourselves in even a small way by the beer we drink, we should do so actively with our minds and our palates in harmony, not because a bikini-clad model, an animated reptile or other manifestation of corporate America told us to.

The daily experience of our tavern flows naturally from these revolutionary principles. We espouse the values of good beer, good food and a good life. We encourage the art of conversation and the marvelous times that follow. We enjoy the life of the tavern and the integrity to be discovered here in. Most importantly, we want our guests to enjoy it too.

We encourage you to be bold and daring. Please try something new from our extensive draught list.

Hope this motivates & inspires you to be creative & daring the next time you’re at a liquor store or a bar. Try something new. Who knows, maybe you’ll like it!

iTunes Meme

Got this from aprettygoodstart…

Great head retention & lacing from start to finish.

Smell - Wow, VERY strong smell of vanilla, butterscotch, sweet caramel, sugar, etc. This is literally a dessert in a 22 oz. bottle. Very intriguing!

Taste - Initial slap-in-the-face with strong vanilla & butterscotch. Some secondary flavors that come through also include some toffee, sweet caramel, and some roasted malt. Very sweet & bitter towards the end that leaves the palate with a dry feeling. Alcohol is noticeable, especially towards the end when it’s accompanied by a nice, warming sensation.

Mouthfeel - Not overly carbonated, which is to be expected for an imperial milk stout. Not as thick/syrupy as other imperial stouts; full-bodied. The sweet vanilla & caramel rest well on the tongue, which is then followed nicely by the bitterness of the alcohol.

Drinkability - Great beer for a 22 oz. bottle, but that’s all I could drink in a night. This could easily be shared with a friend as it is a very sweet beer. I could see this being a great beer for dessert, or even to cook with.

Overall, this beer is one-of-a-kind. It is truly a dessert sealed up in a 22 oz. bottle. Highly recommended for the curious beer drinker.

It’s a coffee macadamia coconut porter that is quite tasty. Here’s my review…

Appearance - Poured along the side of a tulip glass with a very attractive two-finger head. The head is a beige/mocha color that eventually dies down to an espresso-like film that is quite inviting. Good retention & lacing throughout.

Smell - Lots of different smells going on during the first sniff. Coffee is most dominant but is accompanied nicely by a subtle, macadamia & coconut scent. There is a presence of roasted malts in the background that ties everything together nicely.

Taste - Immediate, sharp coffee taste that has almost an espresso-like bitterness to it. After the coffee, the macadamia comes in nicely as well as a hint of chocolate. The coconut comes in towards the end & during the aftertaste. Alcohol presence is minimal until the very end with the warming sensation.

Mouthfeel - Very crisp & carbonated at first but mellows out quickly to a flavorful, smooth, creamy liquid that rests nicely on the tongue. Full-bodied but not too thick/syrupy.

Drinkability - I could definitely drink a few more bottles of this. Makes me wonder what it’s like on tap.

Overall, this beer is awesome. Even though it can be quite pricey, I definitely recommend this beer to all coffee & beer drinkers, and to anyone who wants to taste something unique!
