Review: Great Divide Hercules Double IPA
Big fan of this one. A very nice double IPA that goes down easy.
A: 22 oz. poured into a snifter with about a one finger, beige head. Light mohagany color that is very clear & clean looking with minimal lacing & very little retention, but overall a nice look.
S: Not overly hoppy like most double IPAs, but all in all a very pleasant aroma with hints of earthy hops, malt and a smoked tone to it.
T: Ahh, there are the hops I was hoping for. Minimal grapefruit/citrus taste, predominantly earthy like the smell. The taste is balanced nicely by a hint of caramel malt that has a somewhat bitter finish. Taste is capped off with a nice alcohol burn. Quite enjoyable.
M: Not a huge hop bite initially but after a second or two they come through. Like most IPAs, it becomes quite smooth & silky that rests well on the tongue.
D: This is a great beer for a 22 oz. bottle but not something I’d want to drink all night. Great for spicy food!
Overall this is a great double IPA. Wish the aroma was a bit hoppier but all in all this fits the bill nicely. Well done!
